Harold (as he was always known) was born in Horace Street, Coppice in Hurst Hill and lived in the close vicinity all his life. In the early 1990s he drew a street map from memory of the Coppice area showing everything he could remember about the places and people who lived there in the 1930s.
The map in my humble opinion is and astonishing piece of local history as it contains literally dozens of family names and the houses they lived in during that period. Of course, because it was drawn from memory I can't guarantee that it's 100% accurate.
