18th Century Sedgley Manorial Court Documents

The scans of these documents have been very kindly supplied to the Sedgley website by Mike Dale from Jersey in the Channel Islands.

The two documents are from the Sedgley Manorial Court.

The first, dated 20 May 1723, is in Latin but mentions the names Daniel Cox of Coleshill, Warwickshire and his wife Suzanne (?).

The second, dated 20 Oct 1789, is in English and is titled "Surrender of Miss Eliz. Barker to Uses"
This one mentions Miss Barker (also of Coleshill, Warwickshire) and land and property called Flaxall's Tennement in Woodsetton also a pasture called Hillcroft adjoining Flaxall and a parcel of land called the Inhedge.
It also mentions a Richard Hilton as being in possession of the aforesaid properties.

The files are quite large (200 and 270 kilobytes respectively) but are well worth a look to see what legal court documents looked like 250 years ago. Just click on the thumbnail for a larger view.
